DEBO, A CATALYST FOR CHANGE AND SELF RELIANCE

Debo is a non-profit, charitable organization founded in California in December 2005, to secure national and international support to tackle the extreme poverty in rural Ethiopia. Debo implements its projects in partnership with Debo Yeerdata Mahiber, an indigenous non-profit organization in Ethiopia. Through Debo Yeerdata Mahiber, Debo has formed links with communities at a grassroots level to develop and implement holistic solutions that would enable their self-reliance.

Debo helps rural communities in Ethiopia. We go to the most remote, isolated and disadvantaged part of the country to provide a diverse and comprehensive range of services that can improve the livelihood of the community. We work alongside the community and encourage their participation in the problem solving and decision making process. We are fortunate to have many professionals in Ethiopia and the US who volunteer their time and expertise to implement our program. This makes it possible for Debo to allocate over 90% of its funds directly towards its projects.

Debo’s short term goal is to address vital rural community needs such as clean, safe drinking water and basic health care. The long-term goal will focus on education, economic development and reforestation with Debo providing resources for projects that offer practical, innovative and sustainable solutions that will be catalysts for economic development.
