NURTURE THE LAND, ENCOURAGE SELF SUFFICIENCY

Most rural villages in Ethiopia struggle to make a living from subsistence farming. Archaic farming methods and deforestation have contributed to poor agricultural production resulting in abject poverty of the communities.

To address these fundamental problems, we have launched programs that include the following:

  • Reforestation to minimize/reclaim soil erosion
  • Establish local nurseries to provide a variety of indigenous trees

Achievements to date:

  • Planted 61,000 tree seedlings in Aftenet village and vicinity in July 2006

  • Planted 86,000 tree seedlings in Aftenet village and vicinity in July 2007

  • Planted 156,300 tree seedlings in Aftenet village and vicinity in July 2008

  • Planted 467,793  tree seedlings in Aftenet village and vicinity in July 2009

Our aim is to work closely with rural communities to boost food production, promote sustainable environment and overcome poverty.
