ACCESS TO BASIC AND PREVENTIVE HEALTH CARE
IS A RIGHT, NOT A PRIVILEGE
Basic health care is beyond the reach of many rural communities with thousands of Ethiopians dying each year from preventable diseases. Ethiopia also has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world, mainly due to malnutrition and lack of prenatal care.
To tackle these problems, our core programs include:
Preventive health education in HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases
Promote women’s health issues e.g. midwife training, medical kits for delivery
Health treatment drives such as trachoma and tuberculosis
Achievements to date:
Prepared an educational pamphlet on HIV/AIDS in Amharic for distribution during Debo's health education seminars for rural Ethiopia (preparer Dr. Gedion H/Mariam)
Organized preventive health education seminars in HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases for Debo’s scholarship students in Mehalmeda in June 2007 and December 2008
Organized preventive health education seminars in HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases for Aftenet students in December 2007and 2008
Organized and funded intensive training of fifteen village midwives in Mehalmeda in July 2007. In addition, the midwives were supplied with uniforms and basic delivery kits
