Located in the Horn of Africa and situated almost centrally between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator, Ethiopia is the tenth largest and the second most populous country in the continent. It is Africa’s oldest independent country that has never been successfully occupied by a foreign power. It enjoys one of the world’s oldest civilizations, with a recorded history that dates back several millennia. 
Ethiopia was a monarchy for most of its history and along with Rome, Persia, China and India its Kingdom of Axum was one of the great world powers of antiquity. In 330 AD, Ethiopia adopted Christianity as its state religion.
